Lepidocrocite iron mineralization in keratose sponge granules.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Reddish-brown granules embedded in the spongin fibers of some keratose sponges consist of very fine crystallites of poorly organized lepidocrocite, gamma FeOOH. This is the first occurrence of crystalline iron mineralization in the phylum Porifera and the first indication of hard tissue formation among the Keratosa.

The mineralogic transformation of ferrihydrite induced byheterogeneous reaction with bioreduced anthraquinonedisulfonate (AQDS) and the role of phosphate
Bioreduced anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AH2DS; dihydro-anthraquinone) was reacted with a 2-line, Si-substituted ferrihydrite under anoxic conditions at neutral pH in PIPES buffer. Phosphate (P) and bicarbonate (C); common adsorptive oxyanions and media/buffer components known to effect ferrihydrite mineralization; and Fe(II)aq (as a catalytic mineralization agent) were used in comparative exp...

Biogeochemical transformation (inclusive of dissolution) of iron (hydr)oxides resulting from dissimilatory reduction has a pronounced impact on the fate and transport of nutrients and contaminants in subsurface environments. Despite the reactivity noted for pristine (unreacted) minerals, iron (hydr)oxides within native environments will likely have a different reactivity owing in part to change...
متن کاملReoxidation Rate of Sponge Iron Pellets, Briquettes and Iron Powder Compressed to Various Compressions in Air
The reoxidation rate of sponge iron pellets and briquettes and oxidation of pure iron powder with compressibility between 27% and 55% in air and within the temperature range 300-900°C has been investigated. Factors affecting the oxidation rate are presented. These include the effect of temperature, compressibility, and sintering of Fe-powder before and during the oxidation.
متن کاملDetermination of Relationship between Autoignition of Sponge Iron and Specification of the Iron Ores
Sponge iron (DRI) due to the high surface area, often shows a high tendency to re-oxidation and at some cases spontaneous combustion (autoignition). In this work, re-oxidation behavior and autoignition of sponge iron, produced from different types of iron ore has been investigated. Isothermal and non-isothermal re-oxidation experiments were carried out on each type of DRI and their autoignition...
